Through quill and ink or typewriter, a soapbox on the corner, at a microphone before a multitude, in quiet conversation at the kitchen table – for better or worse, we impact those we meet. Great communication has always been so much more than mere “pretty words.” Its greatness is not measured in recognition by many, but in whether it helps us recognize the humanity in each other. Between sender and receiver there is interpretation and belief, emotion and assumption.
This ground is treacherous, inspiring, beautiful, disheartening, shocking, hopeful…you get the picture. Above all, communication is a delivery system to the soul. Whatever we send out into the world, we would do well to be mindful of how we package it.
